About Deep Purple

DEEP PURPLE proposes an integrated treatment of urban bio-waste in a novel multi-platform concept as a key option to implement a synergic treatment of relevant waste streams of urban origin (mixed waste streams, separately collected organic waste, wastewater and the organic fraction of sewage sludge).

This revolutionary approach of transforming diluted urban bio-wastes into feedstock for bio-industry to obtain sustainable bio-products will be implemented in a novel single-site multi-platform concept (biomass, cellulose and biogas) to replace current polluting destructive practices with new value-added concepts.

The beneficial use of bio-waste is obtained by an innovative combination of optimized recovery technologies and novel solutions: the Purple Phototrophic Bacteria (PPB) PhotoBiorefinery. The first PPB PhotoBiorefinery in the EU (the biggest worldwide) will be validated in different environmental, economic, logistic and social scenarios.

Gate2Growth participation

Gate2Growth will lead tasks in DEEP PURPLE relating to economic assessment, market uptake and exploitation, with the aim of evaluating the economic feasibility of the DEEP PURPLE biorefinery concept and ultimately replicating it Europe-wide while securing successful commercialization for the products created from this process.

G2G main activities are:

  • Techno-economic analysis of DEEP PURPLE value chains, by performing CapEx and OpEx studies

  • Exploitation and replication strategy, by characterizing the most promising results, carrying a market appraisal, identifying suitable funding and financing models or analyzing the exploitation risks, key market and regulatory barriers

  • Business modelling and business plans for each exploitable result, including a functional analysis for the main exploitable results

Deep Purple partners

The DEEP PURPLE project spans 4 years and creates a holistic consortium of 14 partners from 6 European countries.
